Tummy Tuck Abroad
The tummy tuck procedure could be either a partial or a complete procedure.
The Complete Tummy Tuck (Full Tummy Tuck)
The Complete Tummy Tuck surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and takes up to three hours to complete. The surgeon makes one long incision in the crease of the skin under your lower abdomen and second incision to free the navel. Next, the surgeon lifts the excess skin to access the abdominal muscles, pulls them together and stitches them into their new position to create a firmer abdominal wall. All excess skin is then removed and a new navel created. The incisions are then stitched together to achieve a slender waistline.
The Partial Tummy Tuck (Mini Tummy Tuck)
The Partial Tummy Tuck surgery is used where the abdominal muscles repair is not necessary. It is also performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes up to 2 hours to complete. The navel is not re positioned and generally a smaller incision is made just over the pubic area. The skin is then pulled down, excess removed and then stitched back together.
GETTING BACK TO NORMAL AFTER TUMMY TUCK
Enduring the initial discomfort, you should start to see the first results of your surgery after about two weeks into the recovery. However, some people find it takes several weeks or even few months to recover completely and enjoy the final result.
You will need to take at least two weeks off of work, but some patients need a couple of more weeks to ensure proper recovery, especially if the surgery was extensive.
The tummy tuck is an invasive surgery and you need to take the recuperation seriously, just like after C section, or other invasive surgery. Don’t put too much strain on yourself and follow the medical advice down to the letter. All strenuous activity and vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least six weeks, however light exercise about two weeks after the surgery will help you to recuperate faster.
